Topic The success of a product is a function of many factors that cannot be controlled. Given that, what criteria that is measurable, would be good to judge a product manager?

  1. \"Leadership\"–being able to get the informal team to work together. Humility and good interpersonal relationships are components of that. Market share, independently reported, is a good measurable one.
  2. We had a very measurable one–profit margin–the product manager's bonus was a function of increases in this area.
  3. Another one is paid sales to target customers, according to the forecast. You notice I said "paid" sales—if equipment is not yet accepted by the customer, you are not fully paid. Payment and a happy customer are related.
  4. If Bob Graham from Novellus fame were still with us, what we he look for? SALES and GROSS MARGIN.
